Washi bach

Dear Wil

Washi Bach was a familiar figure when I was growing up in Pentraeth in the fifties and sixties, although his visits were infrequent. As somebody else has mentioned, he'd be around Pentraeth about once a year and he had to walk past our house to get to Tanrallt.

Not surprisingly, we children were fascinated by him, but my mother would always call my brother and I back into the house when he appeared, warning us that we should treat him with respect and never mock or stare at him.

There was another quite famous tramp around Anglesey known as Wil Tramp, who was once the subject of a Welsh tv programme. Maybe somebody else remembers him as well.
