Reflections of Christmas

by Anon
(England)

In the late 50s in Llangefni for a lot of people times were still hard. We would have saved all year at the chapel savings club, the week the money was out was very exciting as we could start our shopping. The local shops would of all sorts of goodies at affordable prices. Some people would have already placed orders at Guests or shop Nesta.

The Christmas lights would be up, such as they were at Lon y Felin we would have the Christmas party who else remembers singing 'Pwy sy'n dwad dros y bryn,' before Sion Corn arrived with a gift for all of us from the Ysgol Sul.
Sometimes depending when Christmas fell shops could be shut for nearly a week,I wonder how we managed! People complain these days when only shut for a day.

Anyway Nadolig Llawen I bawb.

Dear Anon

I remember Siop Postie, Siop Penry and Siop Powell closing early on Christmas Eve and not opening until the New Year.

Somehow we managed not to starve and need an emergency shop on Boxing Day.
