Llangefni Carnival 2018 - Confident Beauty

Dear All

Llangefni Carnival was a triumph of beauty, blue skies and wonderful joy yet again this year.

Those of us who remember such extended period of blazing sunshine form our childhood remain confused as to the difference between Climate and Weather. Notwithstanding that, we who remember carnivals from our youth support a statement made by a farmer a week ago that the weather will last hot and dry for another month or so.

Llangefni was indeed a triumph with packed streets, full of waving and joyfulness. Rita would have been so proud and I was sorry I didn't see Enid.

All adjourned to the Llangefni Rugby Club pitch for the funfair and the judging of the princesses, queens, gymnastic displays and I learned that you are not allowed to bring in your own beer to the ground. The argument that it's your brother's pint did not work.

I wonder if the Post Office manage to recover their post van from the cat.

Congratulations to all and thank you for the astonishing hard work by the communities.

Be well and embrace the sunshine.

Eisteddfod Llanddeusant
by: William

Helo Hugh

A wonderful day and I would say a bit busier than last year, which was busy.

I am afraid that my memories of Eisteddfod Llanddeusant are not all that glowing. I remember being dragged along because two brothers were taking part - I never did - and freezing.

Eisteddfod Llanddeusant was a qualifier competition for Eisteddfod Mon, which was a qualifier for the National Eisteddfod and so competition was eagerly engaged. I would have been about seven, dressed in shorts in about early April (not sure) and the sides of the marquee in the field next to the village hall did not reach the ground.

For me, Eisteddfodau was always about mud or cold feet.

That's a memory best left in the box, I think.

LLANGEFNI CARNIVAL
by: Hugh Edwards

Thanks so much for the pictures Will, what a day for the carnival - weatherwise. Looks like it was well attended.

I remember our carnival (and eisteddfod) every year in Llanddeusant and yes I seem to recall that the weather was always blazing hot.

So nice (and important) to see these traditions being maintained.

Hwyl iti Will.
