Drone Flying

by Stuart
(Manchester, UK)

Hi Wil,

I am drone operator for a company in Manchester and I wanted to know what the policy is for flying drones at Porth Wen Brick works?
I am fully licenced and insured, but wanted to know if there is any restrictions in flying a drone around that area.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks,
Stuart Watt.

Drone Flying

Dear Stuart

I have to admit that I do not know; however, I must advise you that the owners of the site are very strict about access of any sort. I have had to put on my website that they regard this area as strictly private and do not encourage people to wander about. Possibly an insurance matter.

I can think of no aviation reasons for flying in the general area now it looks like Wylfa B is off the agenda. There is of course, the individual privacy of walkers.

An idiot had one Flying over the the cemetery in Llangefni for about twenty minutes last year. Can't imagine he/she was licensed.

As a licensed drone pilot, you will of course know about RAF restrictions regarding the vicinity of RAF Valley and flighpaths.

I met a drone pilot from Bangor university a few years back and was fascinated to learn of the archaeological discoveries he and his colleagues have made overflying and photographing Llanddwyn/Newborough Forest.

I send you my best wishes from a really cold and miserable Anglesey this weekend.
