Why are all the public toilets shut?

by Susan. Quick
(Cheshire)

I have been amazed that so many public toilets on Anglesey are locked. Not at all visitor friendly and very 'inconvenient'. This is not the way to encourage tourism!

Public toilets
by: Judith Wall

Hi Will
I read with interest your comments in response to a visitor's concern about closed public toilets and we are just having a week's holiday on Anglesey and noticed that all the public toilets are still shut in October 2019 very disappointed visitor's if other outlets are happy for the public to use their facilities without any obligation they should have a sign stating this.

In'Conveniences.
by: Drew.

On another issue, the toilet seats in the police station at llangefni, were all stolen. A police spokesman said, "We have nothing to GO on." Adding that on a more serous note, in USA all cafes and suchlike must by Law provide a public "restroom" facility. Pretty much never re'opened here, are the "rest room" settings of the 'old' type. Locked up for good. Drug users and other assorted criminal problems (vandalism, discarded syringes, etc. ) seem to plague these older almost 'Victorian' styled "Conveniences nay ''restrooms.

Shut AngleseyToilets
by: William

Dear Susan

Thank you for writing to Anglesey Hidden Gem to highlight a concern that we locals have been aware of for quite a while.

There are interim and long term solutions being pursued I understand. Pin the interim the County Council have come to an agreement with many local cafes, pubs, hotels and the such to allow members of the public to use their facilities without any obligation attached. They are paying these places about £300 a year to open their toilets. There is a list on the Anglesey County Council website. Google it and place the word Toilets in the site's search engine and you should find it there.

In the long term they are working with local community and town councils for them to take over. It is the issue of insurance that is slightly slowing down the discussions. However, there is progress as towns like Holyhead have assumed responsibility. Others will be along soon.

It is a real issue and I'm glad you have written in to highlight it and urge me to offer a response.

It'll be sorted out.

Best wishes

Wil
