Happy Christmas from Anglesey

Anglesey Winter Snow

Monday December 13
, 2010

Blimey! If I’m not careful I might start believing that we never had a Spring here on Anglesey. It’s so cold out there.

And wasn’t it a beautiful, delightful, truly wonderful Spring?

ARE THE TREES WAVING OR DROWNING?

The trees are now no more than skeletal shadows waving their bare limbs against a gray laden sky. So, as I pass through this darkest period of the Winter Season, I am forever seeking signs of changing seasons.

Surely madness lies in this melancholic preoccupation, or at least a re-investing in sadness.

Yet, we are nearly there. Not long now until December 21st, the shortest day of the year. Daylight will begin to extend by about three minutes a day.

'The journey of 10,000 miles starts with but a step, ynde.'

MENTAL CALCULUS FOR THE INSANE

Here I sit at my desk making calculations. The sun sets at 4:00pm, so how many days until five o’clock?

An hour has 60 minutes. January has 31 days and that makes 93 minutes. That makes January 20th 5:00pm. Mmh... That’s encouraging. 5:33pm by the end of January.

Anglesey is beginning to light up nicely. What about the end of February? 28 days so that’s an extra 84 minutes. Where were we?

So by the end of February sunset has extended from 4:00pm until 6:57pm.

Isn’t that encouraging.

WHEN IS SPRING & BRITISH SUMMER TIME?

Next target for me is obviously Spring British Summer Time, which is at 1:00am on Sunday March 28th. That’s an extra 27 days to make a calculation. Three minutes a day is 81 minutes.

Therefore, we need to add that 81 minutes to 6:57pm, which brings us to 8:24pm Sunset Time.

Roll on to the next day and Sunset Time is 9:24pm. Isn’t that BRILLIANT!

OH DEAR LORD, HERE AT LONG LAST!

After that I don’t really care too much because my Onions will be gathering strength, nutrition and I’ll be discoursing with them on their beauty and fabulousness.

The Potatoes, Second Earlies, usually, will be happily settled in that little square-ish patch at the back of the house and the herbs ready for omlettes.

There we are, I feel better already.

’Spring has sprung and the grass has riz...’.

And if you’ve been wondering about the Birdies, well, they’re here, Chez Moi

LOVELY ANGLESEY & SPECTACULAR THINGS TO DO

Anglesey Beaches are beckoning, and I fancy a walk around Anglesey. Then, there are those Historical Sites and Ancient Churches I want to visit once again because they are so special.

I hope that you’re already feeling better. Like a five year old, I’m Waiting As Quickly As I Can.

So wave back at the trees which ARE waving and not drowning.

They may even be wishing you a

Happy Christmas!
