New Year's Eve Lights in the Sky

by Anne
(Rhosneigr)

I live in Rhosneigr and was spending the New Year's Eve evening with friends nearby.

Walking there just after 7.30 I met two friends also walking there. They pointed out two lights in the sky, just like stars but definitely orange, which they had been trying to work out what they were.

As we watched the two lights came together, and then remained as one - stationary. We walked on and before going indoors stood watching then it vanished.

As I walked home approx 10.30, (having had a glass of wine) I saw a similar light moving steadily from the north/northwest towards the south. Then it vanished.

It did occur to me it might be someone using up a flare, but that would not explain the first two.

It never occurred to me to take a picture.

lights in the sky

Hi, I also saw many lights that same night.

No doubt that they were Chinese lanterns. They do look strangely like UFOs. I was convinced that I'd seen an UFO last year until it was pointed out to me that they were indeed Chinese lanterns.

They look nice though,I just wished I'd bought one for myself.

Cheers,

Mike.

Lights in the Sky

A Happy New Year Anne,

It wasn't the wine I can assure you.

What you saw were undoubtedly Chinese lanterns.

I have just returned from a visit to my daughter in Stockport, and I too was amazed to see dozens of them floating gently across the clear sky as Big Ben struck 12.

"War of the Worlds" sprang all too readily to mind until I was enlightened (no pun intended!) by my Grandson.
