Pig Men by Dave NEW
by: Anonymous

Interesting point.

In Welsh, Anglesey people have been called Moch Môn or Anglesey Pigs. As you say, there used to be many drovers on the Island.

What used to happen before the construction of the Menai Suspension Bridge is that the pigs would be swum across from the old George Hotel (now part of Bangor University). The pigs would land on the rocky island that holds up the main Anglesey bridge tower before hopping across to the Anglesey at Porth Sethwy (Menai Bridge).

The island is called Ynys y Moch or Pig Island.

Thanks for jogging that little memory.

Love the site

Dave

A new angle on angels NEW
by: Anonymous

"Angels" sounds as though it's going some!

More prosaically, A Bangor lady once told me that there they always call people from Anglesey "Pigmen"!

She re-assured me that this was because so many of them used to herd and tend pigs, but she was laughing when she said it!

Has anyone else ever heard the expression?
