I NEED TO PLAN AHEAD
I need to make a note of important dates of events and prepare for next year. Like the garden, get the soil ready for potatoes and onions.
I need to make sure that I enjoy the walks, the scrambles and discover even more of those Anglesey Hidden Gems.
I need to block off plenty of days for my family and friends.
Do you know, I didn't even get round to a dip in the sea this year - so far.
TIME IS UNFORGIVING.
"SO WHY NOT GET HOLD OF THIS CALENDAR AND START MAKING YOUR PLANS FOR 2010!"
2010 CALENDAR IMAGES
I have chosen images that make me want to visit these places yet again.
Each time I venture to these strikingly beautiful places I find a different aspect that compells me to want to write about them.
The Island's weather is so stormy and so fickle that I know I'll find days similar to those of Summer even in the depths of a crisp February.
Anglesey's like that.
Actually, ANGLESEY'S BETTER THAN THAT.
JANUARY - Distinctly Pink at Porth Nobla
This image is just one of those fortunate accidents - serendipity. In a hurry - as usual - I just clicked away and was delighted by the pink and peachy orange hues and shadows that were revealed.
FEBRUARY - Barefoot Courage at Crigyll Beach
Just to the right and out of shot is a pining sheepdog chasing after his master along the Rhosneigr shore towards Crigyll Beach.
I was very impressed by the windsurfer's bare feet. It was cold and I was balanced precariously on one of the furthest outcrops in wet trainers.
MARCH - Abstract Aquatics - MENAI BRIDGE
This evening image is taken from the Menai Suspension Bridge. Look closely and you'll see two angular columns of sunshine through the arches.
Taken from the Anglesey side at high tide. You can just about see the Isle of Pigs beneath the water and I love the water cascading off the yellow canoeist's paddle.
APRIL - The Creek, Cemaes Bay
I stood on the bridge in Cemaes Bay and realised that I'd only ever used it as a means of getting from the beach to the shops.
This photo is an example of the beauty that is all around us - all the time. If only we take the time to stop and just look.
MAY - The Lowdown on the Beach, Rhosneigr
I love the colour of all seaweed, though I don't know what they're all called. However, I can identify FUCUS SERRATUS on the right.
This was the morning after a pretty good storm near Ty'n Towyn Beach. All are gathered here, pebble, sand, seaweed, foam and reflected sunshine.
JUNE - Melin Llynnon, Llanddeusant
This is where I get flour for making bread during Summer. An active mill that always presents a spectaular image against a blue sky.
Biggest and tastiest lemon meringues this side of ... anywhere.
JULY - Pirate Schooner off Llandwyn Island
Imagine a warm and pleasant Summer evening after a delightful amble down through Newborough Forest to the raucous sound of the ravens. The tide is out and you walk across to the Island.
In the background lies Snowdonia behind diaphanous clouds and the sand dunes of Llanddwyn Beach reach all the away to Abermenai Point.
AUGUST - Rainbow Sunshine at Cemlyn Bay
The Sky was Blue, the Sea was Blue and I was anything but Blue.
It was a seething hot day and the only thing missing was the sound of stridulating cicadas.
SEPTEMBER - Racing a Storm at Beaumaris
The clouds were violent slate gray over the Menai Straits contrasting with the electric bright sunshine over the town of Beaumaris.
Lightning raced hither and thither as these yachts bravely continued to compete against each other.
OCTOBER - Autumnal Amble to Dulas
This track epitomises the Anglesey seasons in transition, as the beautiful shades of green subside into a rainbow of warm Autumnal colours.
Follow this down to Dulas Beach, which opens up for you with surprising suddeness and affords you solitude and a pleasant reverie.
NOVEMBER - Stormbringer - Bodafon
Sit on the slopes of Bodafon Mountain and you'll be surprised just how big the sky is and how quickly the clouds gather at sunset. Especially to forewarn of an imminent storm.
DECEMBER - Sharp Winter Blue at Penmon
Captured in Winter, this image hints strongly at the need to wrap up warmly. Cold, clear and crisp and the bringer of dewdrop noses.
Enjoy a post-Christmas lunch walk arm-in-arm to the deep sonorous toll of the lighthouse bell.
